This is a Central Sector Scheme is wholly funded by the Government of India for the Welfare of Older Persons and aims at improving the quality of their lives, the target group being the individuals aged 60 years and above, particularly the infirm, destitute and widows. Under this programme Old age homes run by NGOs are provided Central funding support on basis of the recommendation of the State Government. The State has 23 Old Age Homes run in collaboration with NGOs and one Government home for Old Infirm Political Sufferers and Destitute at South Garia. Mobile Medical care units and Day care Centres for geriatric care are also run by NGOs. The Directorate of Social welfare is looking after monitoring and processing of Grant proposal for the whole state.
