This Directorate runs 10 Vagrants' Homes where 1104 Vagrants are staying at present. These Homes are providing the following services to the Vagrant inmates.

• Maintenance (Food, Lodging & Clothing)
• Vocational Training on different Trades (Printing , Black Smith, Weaving , Book-binding, Tailoring , Carpentry , Soft-toy making and others)
• Clinical & Para-Medical Care
• Recreation (Outing, Fairs & Sports Activities)

This is a fully State sponsored scheme. Children in the age group of 8 to 14 are the beneficiaries; children are trained in different vocational trades like Pottery, Printing, Leather, Carpentry, Book-Binding, and Tailoring & Glaze Pottery to prevent them to take up Beggary for self-sustenance & to make them self-dependent. Each beneficiary gets tiffin and stipend per day. Six Units are running under this scheme.

Vocational Training is imparted to the Vagrants staying in different Vagrant Homes to make them self-dependent. There are trained in various trades like Printing , Tailoring, Carpentry, Leather work and Glazed Pottery to prevent them from taking up Beggary as a profession and to re-integrate them with the Society.

This is fully State Sponsored Scheme. The objective of this scheme is to give shelter to the homeless people, of a city or town covered under JNNURM with the population of 5 lakh or more, to live life with dignity. In 2011-12, the scheme had been launched in Kolkata, Howrah and Asansol Municipal Corporations areas. From 2011-12 to 2015-16 this Department has already succeeded to sanction 45 Shelters.

The Vagrancy Directorate maintains and distributes 2399 Widow Pension under Departmental quota for the State and 6813 Widow Pension for KMC area and Kamarhati, Baranagar, Dum Dum, North Dum Dum, South Dum Dum & Bidhannagar Municipal areas.

Disability Pension -

This is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. Pursuant to the introduction of ICPS in 2009 - 10, the Street Children programme was revamped as ‘Open Shelter’ and merged into ICPS. Accordingly, Street Children programme ended on 31.03.2011 and State migrated from Street Children programme to Open Shelter component of ICPS in the beginning of 2011 - 12 fiscal year which would function as 24-hour Crisis Management Centre to receive and provide necessary assistance to all children in need of care & protection in age group of 6 to 18 years, particularly homeless, pavement dwellers, Child beggars, street and working children, rag pickers, small venders, orphan, deserted, trafficked, drug addict, irrespective of caste creed and religion. The Department has succeeded to sanction and run 26 Open Shelters.
